Gustav Theodore Holst was born on this day 21 September 1874. He was an English composer, arranger and teacher and is best known for his orchestral suite The Planets. The most played movements is Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity but these days I think that we need Venus, the Bringer of Peace. Sit back and close your eyes and be taken away for a few precious moments. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1ihAfU-O1k

Greenwich Time review With candles and chimes, chants and "ooohs and aaahs," the Christmas Concert of the Greenwich Choral Society immediately wrapped the audience in its wondrous annual Christmas music experience. And an ethereal experience it was, with perennial magic in the musicianship of Director and Conductor Paul Mueller, who always seems to find cultural music, religious cantatas and masses, unusual arrangements of well-known carols and soloists that are simply transporting. From its opening Huron Indian carol to works by Benjamin Britten, Rachmaninoff and Debussy, to joyful arrangements of time-honored carols and liturgical Kyrie Eleison, the concerts are simply unique.

No, they're not smoking a joint. They are practicing breathing techniques at a choral rehearsal on Zoom. Not willing to call it quits just because of a pandemic, the Greenwich Choral Society is exploring ways to create music virtually. Stay safe and stay tuned! Virtual music may be coming your way!
